Per my understanding, that's not true.
From what I have read, medical science has pretty much no clue as to what causes ordinary consciousness, let alone what Eban experienced.

While adventurous reductionist suppositions can be made about the cause (or, at minimum, the neural correlates) of Eban's experiences, medical science is pretty much groping in the dark for anything approaching a solid, provable explanation for why Eban's experiences occurred.
From what I have read, no one really knows what exactly happened with Eban Alexander during his coma -- just that he reported some far out stuff. That we do know.
