  Jay Oeming Seems to me like this isn't rocket science. If a bunch of young people are getting drunk and having casual sex in the frats and dorms, sexual predators are going to take advantage. It's like leaving stores unlocked with the security guards drinking -- there is going to be theft. Idealism will do nothing to stop this. Saying robbers don't have the right to rob is useless. Am I missing something here?

    Jay Oeming @Ian (and whomever) It's like: Some (SOME! - not all) women vehemently claim they have the right be scantily or provocatively clad, flashing cleavage, etc', expecting that is their right that no one should dare question -- yet, they beef when a guy wears a shirt with scantily clad women. They want the right to indiscriminately radiate inviting sexuality, but they can't handle it when it is reflected back at them.

    Mary Catherine Poole Jay et al. Your reasoning lacks substance. Rape is not about sex - rape is about power. A woman and a man have a right to express their sexuality in whatever way they choose, but it is a choice, for the woman and for the man. Operant word here is CHOICE! Jay your argument is a false equivalency - you are not talking about the same thing - dressing sexy is not equal to an invitation. We have a rape culture - a culture that promotes and encourages violence against women by its music, images, and legal and cultural system that blames women for their own victimization, as you do here, Jay and as the president of Eckerd did too, at least by implication.

    Jay Oeming I'm not judging, i'm just saying. If you flash major flesh, you'll very likely get hit on hard, sooner or later. It is what it is. No blame, no more than saying that water is to blame for flowing downhill. No reasoning necessary. I can prove that in laboratory of day-to-day life. Walk naked down the street and see what happens. If the authorities don't detain you first, you will be very hit on (that is, if you are younger and reasonably attractive). 2+2=4. Flesh talks. It's hard wired. No rule is going to change that basic chemical reaction.

Let me get this straight:  It a sounds like some students are saying "We want to drink all we want, have sex with whomever we want, and that shouldn't cause anyone to go overboard and become sexually assaultive.  That is our RIGHT.  You've got to step up to our level."
