• It is my understanding that Iraq War II had a solid justification. My understanding and recollection is that shitload after shitload of chemical and biological weapons were discovered in Iraq in the years leading up to Iraq War II. Also, clearcut evidence of a budding nuclear program was discovered. (In fact, the roots of the program went back to the 1970s.) Basically, no one disputes this. Then, there were some indications that Iraq had maybe really, truly quit messing around with WMD -- at least for the time being. Bush didn't believe it -- and, going against many who disagreed, he invaded Iraq. Sure enough, nothing was found. But, certainly, the history of Saddam's Iraq was to make, or plan to make, chemical, biological and nuclear weapons (they actually used chemical weapons) -- and, to repeatedly lie about it, and "mess with the heads" of the inspectors. In invading Iraq, Bush was going on his instincts, and on Iraq's extensively documented past WMD track record. I see no sign that Bush went into Iraq with a dark ulterior motive, or without a solid rationale. Even though WMDs were not found, there were written records discovered indicating that Saddam's intention was to resume productions of WMDs once the close scrutiny died off. This would be totally consistent with Saddam's behavior throughout the earlier 1990s. I understand why Bush did what he did. He wasn't going off half-cocked. His guess was wrong, but it was a justifiable guess. I could be wrong in my assessment of this. It is my best read I can give on the situation.

  Jay Oeming As far as the military-style tactics and equipment police are using more and more often these days, i understand why this happening. It is because more and more often the cops are running into bad guys who armed to the teeth with military-grade weaponry and equipment. If a crazy idiot with AK-47s and grenade launchers takes over a building, and holds everyone hostage, billy clubs and Tasers ain't gonna cut it. Armored vehicles allow law enforcement personnel to get in close. To use a lesser vehicle would be over-the-top risky. That's one example of the appropriate use of military grade equipment by cops. That's what I see happening. I could be wrong.
